VIAGEM NO TEMPO

Aproveitem!

VISTA ALEGRE: THE ORIGINAL FACTORY AND NEIGHBORHOOD

Who lives in Aveiro, knows the history of this place and even though not currently, in one or another time might paid it a visit. The area of Vista Alegre, as in the famous brand of porcelain, knows this as it's birthplace. The factory still works in a new building adjacent to the old facilities.
In the mid-nineteenth century, a whole village was built annexed to the manufacturing facilities. The purpose was to provide housing and training for the workers. All buildings of similar trait are still largely intact , despite their condition. Besides the houses , there was also a garage for car repairs, a theater , a nursery and a beautiful church, still active today, and surrounded by all that magic and ancient environment. The Vista Alegre neighborhood is the first case in Portugal, where an entirely private initiative founded an industrial village of this level, self-sufficient and isolated from other urban areas. José Ferreira Pinto Basto, the founder of Vista Alegre Porcelain Factory, started it's contruction in 1824, with the goal to house the workers who flocked there from all over the country looking for job.
Visit this place is almost like time travel. Some of the houses are still inhabited, but there is a project for the rehabilitation of the entire area , conducted by the city hall of Ílhavo.
I hope that the bucolic feeling never disappears.
Until then , you can always visit the area in these coordinates :

40.58 '90 .99 '' N , 8.68 '35 .44 '' W
