Bem cedo partimos para o Castelo que foi cenário do Anjos e Demónios...e cenário de outras tantas histórias.
Durante os seus 2000 anos de existência, serviu de residência papal e prisão, foi alvo de conquistas e tumultos. Foi mandado construir no ano 130 pelo Imperador Adriano, como sepulcro para ele e para a sua família. E assim serviu esse princípio, até que no ano de 271, e sob a ameaça de uma invasão alemã, foi rapidamente transformado em cidadela. Em 847 foi transformado em residência papal, e em 1227, ligado ao Vaticano através de um túnel secreto. Foi ainda usado como arsenal e prisão, mas o que mais marca este edifício são as vistas magnificas sobre o Rio Tibre, a cidade e a Basílica de São Pedro.
Em frente ao Castelo, juntam-se artistas e comerciantes sobre a Ponte homónima. Dez estátuas de anjos da autoria de Bernini, enfeitam o varandim, olhando curiosos a vasta multidão que vai passando.

Second day in Rome ... well sunnier than the first.
Very early we left for the castle setting of the Angels and Demons movie ... and so many other stories.
During it's 2000 years of existence, it served as papal residence, prison and was the target of many riots. It was built in 130 by Emperor Hadrian as a tomb for him and his family. And it served this principle until 271, when under the threat of a German invasion, was quickly transformed into a citadel. In 847 became the papal residence, and in 1227, was connected to the Vatican by a secret tunnel. It was also used as a prison and arsenal, but what marks this building are the magnificent views over the Tiber River, the city and the Basilica of St. Peter.
In front of the Castle, artists and traders come together over the bridge with the same name. Ten statues of angels designed by Bernini, grace the balcony, watching curious the wide crowd that goes by.
