O bilhete de acesso à Conciergerie permitia também a entrada da Sainte Chapelle. Àparte ser uma Capela Gótica, pouco sabia sobre ela...e na verdade não tinha em mim qualquer expetativa em relação à visita.
O pináluco de 75 apresenta-se óbvio desde longa distância apesar da visibilidade do exterior ser um pouco limitada, mas rapidamente demos com a fila de acesso.
Foi construída por Luís XV, para guardar relíquias valiosas adquiridas durante as Cruzadas. Foi a morada inicial para a Coroa de Espinhos (agora na Notre Damme, já publicado) e supostamente o custo de aquisição desta relíquia, ultrapassou em larga escala o custo de construção da Capela.
De fato, a estreita escadinha que nos levou à Capela Alta, não fazia jus ao que vimos de seguida. 15 vitrais cheios de cor representam 1113 cenas bíblicas, desde o Génesis ao Apocalipse. A janela nº16 conta a história de como as relíquias chegaram à cidade.
No nível inferior existe a chamada Capela Baixa, onde a estátua da Virgem acolhe os visitantes. Na altura da visita, os vitrais estavam em processo de restauro, projeto esse com alguns anos já, e outras tantos pela frente. Na parede era exibido um filme de como era feito todo o restauro dos vidros, pedaço a pedaço. Impressionante!
Embora muito pequena, esta foi claramente a igreja gótica mais bonita que tive oportunidade de visitar.
Paris - Sainte Chapelle (day #3)
The ticket for the Conciergerie also allowed the entrance on the Sainte Chapelle. Apart from being a Gothic Chapel, I knew little about it ... and actually didn't have any expectation regarding the visit.
The 75m tower presents itself from long distance despite the visibility of the exterior of the chapel being very limited, but quickly we saw the long queue.
It was built by Louis XV, to save valuable relics acquired during the Crusades. Was the initial address to the Crown of Thorns (now at Notre Damme, already published) and supposedly the cost of this relic, large-scale exceeded the cost of construction of the Chapel.
In fact, the narrow ladder that led us to the Upper Chapel, didn't live up to what we saw then. 15 full color glass windows represent 1113 Biblical scenes, from the Genesis to the Revelation. Window No. 16 tells the story of how the relics arrived in the city.
On the lower level there is the Lower Chapel, where the statue of the Virgin welcomes the visitors. At the time of the visit, the windows were in the process of restoration, a project now with a few years and so many others ahead. On the wall was shown a movie of how the restoration was being done, piece by piece. Impressive!
