A paragem do metro tem o mesmo nome e quando sair do túnel vai ficar surpreendido com a dimensão gigante do edifício!
O seu verdadeiro nome é Anfiteatro Flávio, e foi mandado construir por Vespasiano no ano 72 D.C.. Muitas pedras da sua fachada foram usadas para construir a Basílica de S. Pedro, depois de 450 anos de lutas de animais e gradiadores. Tinha uma capacidade para 55.000 espetadores, mas o seu estado de degradação acaba por esconder alguma da sua magnificiência de outrora. Já conhecia o interior e como tal não fiz a visita, mas para quem estiver interessado custa à volta de 11€. Espere filas consideráveis.
A zona em volta do Coliseu é super bonita. Tem comércio, comida, casas, artistas de vários tipos. Olhando em redor encontra vestígios de Igrejas ou Templos de Outrora. A cor terracota dos edifícios confere uma tonalidade quente à cidade e este é o local ideal para se enamorar por Roma. Passeie pelas imediações e encante-se. Se puder, fique lá até ao anoitecer. O Coliseu fica completamente diferente!

Rome has 3000 years of history and many monuments reflect that presence. The Coliseum is clearly one of the most visited monuments around the world and a historic icon to know! The metro stop has the same name and when you exit the tunnel you'll be surprised by the size of the giant building!
Its real name is Flavian Amphitheater, and was built by Vespasian in 72 AD. Many of it's front stones were used to build the Basilica of S. Peter, after 450 years of animal fights and gradiadores. It had a capacity for 55,000 spectators, but it's state of degradation eventually hides some of the magnificence of the past. I already knew the interior so I didn't make the trip, but for those interested it costs around € 11. Expect considerable queues.

Looking around you'll find traces of Churches and Temples of old times. The terracotta colored buildings confer a warm tone to the city and this is the ideal place to fall in love with Rome. Stroll round and delight yourself. If you can, stay there until nightfall. The Coliseum is completely different!
